Are Americans Safe In Europe?

Are Americans safe in Europe? Or is this just an isolated incident? A friend of mine, a Delta Airlines flight attendant, was jumped in Brussels on layover, while just walking along, and brutally beaten by a random man of a certain religious persuasion.

The Cowardly Beater claimed he ‘hated Americans’. Oh. Well, that makes it okay, then.

This flight attendant is probably in his 50s, maybe older, so I definitely want to congratulate the young man who was able to catch an older, thin, and not in the best of health, American. Catch him unaware and try beating him to death. How proud he must be! Perhaps he can try a two year old next and get another notch in his belt.

Mental illness and religious nuttiness has now taken the place of drunk driving as the go-to way to kill someone legally. No repercussions. Nothing to worry about. There was a time when you could get drunk at the local bar, drive home, take out a few people on the way with a Lincoln Continental four door, and get away with it. Legalized homicide.

Used to be you could take your victim on a hunting trip and have them ‘trip’ on a gun, ‘accidentally’ kill them, and get away with it. Or you could dress them in a bunny outfit and stick a shotgun up their bunny snout and then claim ‘Fuddiness‘ as a reason for murder.

“Yerhoner, I was fuddied. I was not responsible for that wascally wabbit’s demise.”

“Case dismissed! Please take your Vicodin and oxycodone on a more regular basis, Mr. Fudd.”

You should be aware that some law enforcement personnel are now suspicious of ‘hunting’ accidents. Probably Dick Cheney’s fault. He ruined it for all of us.

Now, it seems acceptable to be of a certain religious persuasion (don’t make me say it!), and jump lone strangers in the streets of Europe for no other reason than that you hate them, and beat them to death. I’m awaiting further details, but from stories I’ve heard, many young men get away with all sorts of crimes over there, and receive nothing worse than a slap on the wrist.

If I’m wrong, please tell me. I’m always happy to hear someone got 20 to life for rape and murder.

Fortunately, my friend wasn’t killed. He was just beaten unrecognizable.

I believe the attacker was mentally ill, even if it was his religion that made him so. Do mentally ill people do such things? Let’s find out, shall we? I do know they stalk strangers simply because they ‘hate them’. Makes as much sense as jumping them in the street.

The link below explains how you can be ‘mentally ill’, which covers a LOT of territory, and kill people, too. Learn from the news, folks! Quit using outmoded methods of getting away with murder!

Remember the little girl a few years back, who had an argument with her mom, so she decided to go out and kill herself and take someone with her? She drove 90 miles an hour into the rear of a stopped car carrying three young men. Killed all three outright.

She survived, worse luck. Served less than four years and got probation. See what I mean? Religious dogmatism, mental illness, borderline personality disorders, sociopathy, psychopathy, bi-polar disorder; a crazy horse by any other name can still kick you in the head and get away with it. Isn’t that nice?

They can go on living, whining, crying, making other people miserable, suck all the air out of the atmosphere, and then take out a bunch of innocent people and chalk it all up to a bad day. Guess what? I’d have a bad day, too, if one of them killed or beat up my son or hubby.

As for being the victim of a mentally disturbed religious nut, if European countries want to keep opening their doors to them, more power to them. I think we should avenge the attempted murder of my friend by refusing to visit their shores.

It isn't safe in europe if you're an american on chezgigi.com

Let’s stay home!

I think Americans everywhere should quit spending their filthy touristy American dollars in Europe altogether, since everyone there seems to hate us. Take your filthy American dollars and go to other places in America, of which there are many. Have you looked at an AARP magazine lately?  There’s also Latin America (haven’t heard much about drug lords lately), or Australia, or Canada. Spend your filthy dollars there!

Several years ago in Egypt an entire busload of American tourists was set upon and murdered. After that, there was a significant drop off in tourism in Egypt. Egyptians weren’t too happy about that. I don’t think Europeans would be, either, if we ceased going. I’ve heard some say they could give a rat’s flying butt what we do, but they never seem to mind calling us when they’re being set upon by Celtic warriors, or when they’re running short of funds and need some filthy American dollars.

No one seems to think our dollar is too important. Until it’s gone, that is.

Yes. I think flight attendants, and everyone else needs to stay in, if they can’t carry weapons.

Hear, Hear. Finally someone say’s it like it is. Let’s talk now about foreign aid
and why it exists. I am for a little isolation. If other nations cannot or will not protect our people they should not be on our A list and any help we provide should only be with Nations that are on our side and taking steps to resolve these crimes and punish the offenders.
Thank You my Love for showcasing the problem. Dear God (Christian God) I Love you sooooo much. P.S. nice finish with another nut we know of.

Was the Brussels incident recent? I didn`t read about it is why I ask. Seems the European news is also full of attacks by religious nutters who love to be in Europe for all the safety and economic advantages (mainly free to those asylum seekers) it offers – but, who hate Europeans – you know – infidels (that is what we called THEM some centuries ago. You`d think they could be more original! Always borrowing from the west and twisting it – wordwise here and into bombs in North Korea) . Digression, sorry. Americans are not the only unsafe ones. On a bus trip from Madrid to my place last year , I was seated next to a guy of non-European ethnic appearance, with a package on hip lap and chattering in a non-European tongue in his I phone. I can tell you, I was nervous – until he finally got off. And I lived over there!! How the world has changed. So sad. Americans used to be objects of great interest (positive) in foreign countries, especially 3rd world north of the equator. What can I say…

Yes, I think it happened recently. A friend of my friend from Delta called her, and she told me yesterday. He’s still recovering. He was by himself, so it wasn’t going to make the news. That’s why I put it on here. I think people should know about this stuff. They hear about all our shootings, and are nervous about coming here. I’d be much more nervous about going over there, now.

That’s why I love watching movies from the 60s. It brings such nostalgia, about the days of visiting Europe; the excitement, the feeling of ‘coming home’ and the newness of it all. People felt safe and generally welcomed, although there were always those who hated Americans. There were always refugees who came here and hated Western society, too. Terrorism has been around for more than a century.

No defensive weapons are allowed on board aircraft, even by flight attendants. I asked my friend if FAs could carry mace or tasers. She said no.

So sad. He goes about his business, not interfering with anyone, and is attacked for who he is.
I hope he’ll be okay. My best wishes to him.

I know. I was pretty upset to hear about it. Especially since I know he’s in his 60s, probably. I’ll relay the message, Annabelle!

Gigi, so sorry to hear about your friend.
We are surely living in scary times and whilst your post tells the truth of the situation and, as ever, beautifully written, it is also very hard to receive however truthful.
I firmly believe that these sects, cults, terrorists, “insane” people, hate groups and so on, are nothing but criminals and deserve only to be treated as such. But in addition you have the opportunist criminal preying on the fear created by these people for their own benefit and ends. Again nothing but criminals. I was aware during the 1970’s troubles in Northern Ireland you had the republican and protestant terrorists going about their evil business but others in their wake demanding and extorting money from construction companies and other businesses under threat of similar violence.
All of these just criminals and each country needs to deal with them as they would any other type of crime. A very difficult situation, granted, but needs to be done.
As for insanity pleas, I agree that we are too soft. Joseph Heller described it well in Catch-22 “In logical terms the ‘catch’ was that, by applying for exemption from highly dangerous bombing missions on the grounds of insanity, the applicant proved himself to be sane”.
So if you murder someone and plead insane to get off the charge then you are sane enough to face the consequences. Maybe not jail, then away from society in an institution so people are safe from their harm.

John, all this time I thought Catch-22 meant that a pilot would fulfill a certain number of missions, but as soon as he did, the required number went up. Wow. This is so interesting.

I remember all the things that were happening in Ireland, and they affected us when we had layovers in London. You are exactly right; each country needs to deal each of these people individually and not give them a pass. Make each country safe for everyone. Thanks, John!

Gigi, you have not been wrong all this time. Your understanding of Catch-22 is only one of the many “catches”. The insane one was the one I recall best. Another Catch-22 was that the enemy can do whatever it wants to you that you cannot prevent him from doing.
        Great book and film.

That makes sense. It’s a great phrase. It’s been years since I’ve seen it.
